They Gather
They gather at the table
only when crops have finished rotting
and discuss starving stockpiles
over tables freshened with food.At the bottom of each glass
they find more truth, obscured
by the taste of warm food
with thoughts and prayers in their golden toasts.Silver and jewels on white cloths
glimmer and twinkle with answers
to the plaguing problems
that haunt the living corpsesand blind the eyes against the blights.
Nod and smile, pat themselves against
the back while the nation retires
and starves to sleep. They gather to consider tomorrow
but the bodies were buried yesterday.
Forget, that thoughts and prayers of today
will not un-dig the graves already laid.
